Destrono’s Top 10 Crossover Games

March 11, 2010 at 3:59 PM (Destrono's Top Whatever List)

It’s been a while since my last Top Whatever List post. Well, guess what? In addition to this one, I have 4 more coming up to go in between each of my next 4 editions of System Failures. How’s that for more activity, ReDead (lol) & company?

For this post, I’ll be talking about my top 10 crossovers in videogames. It will of course, be fighting game-dominated, but that’s not a bad thing, right? Right. Let’s get on with it! Read the rest of this entry »

Unpleasable fanbase is unpleasable as usual, but…Sonic 4!

February 4, 2010 at 10:47 AM (Destrono's Thoughts, Opinions & Random Stuff)

http://blogs.sega.com/usa/2010/02/04/sega-announces-sonic-the-hedgehog-4-episode-I/#comments *Shakes head* Burned out a while ago on giving a damn what goes on in Sonic fandom anymore, with all the bickering and shit. Still amusing though. I’ve observed the same split-reactions while lurking two other Sonic forums (Sonic Stadium and Sonic Retro) when the big reveal went up. Chuckle and a sigh. Top 10 Ninjas of Gaming

November 8, 2009 at 11:02 AM (Destrono's Top Whatever List)

My end of Ninja-thon (marathon featuring ninjas) has come to a close with the conclusion of Shinobi 3, so I’ve found it appropriate to do a top 10 featuring my favorite ninjas. Now I haven’t played EVERY game featuring ninjas, so if your favorite isn’t listed, or isn’t in a spot you think they deserve, don’t throw shurikens at me! Ninjas that did not make the cut will be highlighted in my “Could have made it” section. Pirates suck and ninjas rule! Let’s get this started. Note: There will be a small spoiler involving Gray Fox in this list. Read at your own risk.

Pit-Fighter review goes up next week (or the week after next).

September 26, 2009 at 4:06 PM (Destrono's Thoughts, Opinions & Random Stuff)

Just giving yall an update on the “long-awaited” Pit-Fighter bashfest of a review. It’s coming, I promise!  I’ve been putting it off for weeks for various reasons, with the latest being exams (4) to study for, and a sudden cold (hopefully not Swine Flu).

Next Saturday, October 3rd (or Saturday, October 10th, whichever date is possible), I will boot up the Xbox, pop in the Midway Arcade Treasures 2 disk, and play this piece of shit game to review. I might play the ROMs of the Genesis/SNES/etc versions and review those as a bonus (and probably die trying).

Closing this post out to “Age of Innocence” by Smashing Pumpkins. See ya when I see ya.

Part 2 of Sonic music blog will be up by the weekend.

August 25, 2009 at 10:23 PM (Destrono's Thoughts, Opinions & Random Stuff)

Just letting everybody (that cares) know. College is now back in session, so it might take me till then to finish it. The favorite tracks for Adventure 1, 2 and Heroes are finished. 06 is in the beginning stages; Unleashed and Shadow are TBD.

And Then There Was Chao!

August 21, 2009 at 6:31 PM (Destrono's Thoughts, Opinions & Random Stuff)

After rushing through the stages as Sonic and Shadow, blasting enemies to bits as Tails and Dr. Eggman, finding emerald shards & keys as Knuckles and Rouge, defeating every boss (again), and racing on an odd highway based on San Francisco, I am 9 Chao emblems away from ing Sonic Adventure 2 Battle!

I set a goal last Saturday (August 15th) to get all emblems for Sonic + Cannon’s Core by the end of this week, and I have succeeded (August 21st). Now all I have left to do is raise a chao, so it can win races and karate. I will grind and grind, collecting animals and chaos drives so I can have a decently balanced Chao. I won’t go the easy way out and use a cheat device, nope (no offense to those that use them). This will require hard work and dedication, the same kind I used for Sonic Adventure DX, which was completed this past spring. The only thing that might slow me down is college, depending on the workload.

Along for the ride are the following games to keep me somewhat sane:

I haven’t made much progress in the Unleashed yet. Still early in the game. While I do like it, the Wii version so far is better, in opinion. I’ll slowly cover more ground in this one.

Playing again to beat the Babylon story. Completion is still a long ways off.

What’s this, a Final Fantasy game? Yes, it is. I am no fan of the series but I do like the genre this game is in (DMC-style) and Vincent is…interesting. I’m almost through with it.

Planning to complete this before Tekken 6 comes out. I love me some Tekken!

Still need to beat.

This won’t be on the playlist long-term, but I want to get more missions finished. Completion is a long way off for this one too.

Plan to play on another difficulty, with a different turtle. Don perhaps?

Beating the game as Tails this time around.

Since this game is required to unlock something in Battle via link cable (purchasing), which I will count towards completion, I’ll probably add this to the playlist. I’ve been meaning to beat it anyway.

Next week Metroid Prime Trilogy comes out, buying that as well.

For those of you highly anticipating my Pit-Fighter review, don’t worry, it will come.

I close this blog out with the credits theme from Columns 3.

20 Of My favorite Sega Genesis Games

August 15, 2009 at 1:23 AM (Destrono's Top Whatever List)

In celebration of Sega Genesis’s 20th anniversary, I am going to list 20 of my favorite games for the system. I like a lot more than 20 Genesis games, but I wanted to narrow them down…to 20. On with the list!

#20 – Michael Jackson’s Moonwalker

While staying up hours (watching news coverage) after the King of Pop passed away, I decided to beat this game on all difficulties in tribute. After staying up till 7 in the morning, I still wasn’t tired. Guess shock prevented that in a way. Still fun today. :)

#19 – Tiny Toon Adventures: ACME All-Stars

I can’t count how many times as a kid I’ve playd this. Had to be more than 20. Heck, I still play it today on occasion. It’s that fun. :)

#18 – Mickey Mania

Hardest. Mickey. Game. Ever.

#17 – Tiny Toons Adventures: Buster’s Hidden Treasure

Plays like Sonic in a way.

#16 – World of Illusion: Sarring Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck

Best.Mickey.Game.Ever. My opinion of course.

#15 – Vectorman

Sega’s version of Mega Man. Awesome.

#14 – Dynamite Headdy

A game centered around puppets? Cool beans!

#13 – Comix Zone

While hard and short, it’s still a blast.

#12 -Ristar

Sega, bring him back!

#11 – ToeJam & Earl

Jammin’!

#10 – Super Hang-On

Outride A Crisis, brah.

#9 – OutRun

Magical Sound Shower

#8- Sonic Hedgehog

Need I say more?

#7 – Sonic & Knuckles

Lock-On Technology!

#6 – X-Men 2: The Clone Wars

Best X-Men game with the arcade game right behind it.

#5 – TMNT: The Hyperstone Heist

Turtles in Time gets all the attention, but this game is good too. How many even know this exists? :(

#4 – Maximum Carnage

What was already said in a past blog does need to be said again. Love it.

#3 – Streets of Rage 2

One of, if not the best, beat em’ up ever. The 1st level’s theme is a classic.

#2 – Sonic the Hedgehog 2

Sonic 2, Sonic 2! :)

#1 – Sonic the Hedgehog 3

My favorite Sonic game.

Top 10 Favorite Water-based Sonic Stages

July 25, 2009 at 6:28 PM (Destrono's Top Whatever List)

I normally don’t care much for water stages, being generally slow moving, but there are a few exceptions such as Jolly Roger Bay from Super Mario 64, and of course, the levels in Sonic games. On with the list!

#10 – Wave Ocean (Sonic the Hedgehog ’06)

Whether it’s relaxing on the beach, going up and down loops, or getting chased by a big killer whale, Wave Ocean is the place to be!  ;)

#9 – Aquatic Base (Sonic the Hedgehog ’06)

A laboratory entirely taking place underwater. Includes a cameo from Ecco & friends later in the act (and if not Ecco himself, some dolphins) Plus, the music is great.

#8 – Adabat (Sonic Unleashed)

A stage based on Brazil or somewhere in Southeast Asia. This place is beautiful.

#7 – Kingdom Valley (Sonic the Hedgehog ’06)

An abandoned castle northeast of Soleanna (place where the game takes place).

#6 -Pirate Island (Sonic Rush Adventure)

You get to ride dolphins (Ecco reference again, Sega?)

# 5 – Aquatic Ruin (Sonic the Hedgehog 2)

A classic stage!

#4 – Ocean Palace (Sonic Heroes)

The music is nice, and the scenery is too.

#3 – Seaside Hill (Sonic Heroes)

My favorite stage from Sonic Heroes

#2 -Emerald Coast (Sonic Adventure)

Fell in love with this stage the moment I booted the game up. The whale chase will remain a classic moment.

#1 – Hydrocity Zone (Sonic the Hedgehog 3)

My favorite stage from one of my favorite Sonic games. The music is kickass and the background (especially the Sonic statues in Act 1) is very well-detailed. Plus, there isn’t much slowdown with all the ramps, slides, loops, etc.

There you have it, my favorite water stages from Sonic games!
