A Double Feature – Where is Mighty? Meet the Gizoid, Emerl!
Just coming off beating Sonic Battle not too long ago and replaying Sonic Megamix (fan game, not officially from Sega/Sonic Team) as Mighty, I wanted to do something different. How about combining two features which have been getting some good views and responses, and center them around characters relating to games I’ve played recently? I’ll be at least doing 4 of these combo posts to experiment. Read the rest of this entry »
Some rainbows are nice, while others (LJN) are terrible.

Who doesn’t love rainbows? After it rains something fierce, a nice, beautiful rainbow appears and all is happy and peaceful. Many of the popular cold cereals are famous for their colorful shapes (Fruit Loops, Trix, Fruity Pebbles), and some like Lucky Charms, have their own rainbows. We all love those. There’s also colorful candy like Skittles (my favorite), M&Ms, and Smarties. We all love these rainbow candies of goodness. I could talk about good rainbows all day, but this post isn’t for anything positive. Yes, folks, I’m talking about the negative, shitty kind like what’s above.
I’m starting the first edition of Where Are They Now? with the company, notorious for releasing shitty games, LJN!
Where is LJN now?: Defunct, and thank god for that.
LJN was founded by Jack Friedman in 1970. The company started out as a toy company making products based on famous franchises and people like Gremlins, Thundercats, WWF Superstars, and Michael Jackson (R.I.P.)
In 1986, LJN was acquired by MCA, the music company, and started making video games based on popular licenses for the NES. 2 years after that, Acclaim got a hold of them. Under Acclaim, LJN no longer produced toys and instead was strictly a game company. Cool beans, right?
Before I go through a few of their shitty games, I’ll talk a little about 2 Spidey games I did like from them (although I’m pretty sure they didn’t produce them, only published).
Spider-Man & Venom: Maximum Carnage (Genesis/SNES)
This is probably my favorite game featuring Spidey. Maximum Carnage is based on a comic book arc of the same name. The soundtrack is awesome. The gameplay is classic beat ‘em up action that will punish you because of its difficulty. I’ve still never beaten it but when I re-buy this game again, I will attempt to do so. I like to admit as a kid the cover kinda creeped me out – had a few nightmares. XD This is truly one of LJN’s only gems.
Venom & Spider-Man : Seperation Anxiety (Genesis/ SNES/PC)
Seperation Anxiety is more of the same Spidey action, this time being able to choose between the Web-Slinger or Venom. I haven’t beaten this either, but unlike Maximum Carnage I still have this game.
Alright, I’ve talked about the (only) good games from LJN, let’s talk about the 5 games from them I’ve played….and hated.
Spider-Man/X-Men: Arcade’s Revenge (Genesis/SNES/Game Boy/Gear Gear)
I’ve never gotten past the Spidey level in all my time playing this for two reasons: #1 the game is too damn difficult, and #2 I just didn’t want to play it anymore. It seems everywhere you turn there is a death trap or something. In Wolverine’s stage, it’s almost too easy to die by the Juggernaut (bitch) as he’s chasing you the entire time. The only way you can damage him is to get close and personal, and that can be deadly, as there’s no room for error. Oh yeah, let’s talk about that Spider-Man level that starts the game, shall we? You know what you do the entire time? Disarm bombs outside and inside a maze-like building. Hardly any action at all, not fun.
Spider-Man: Return of the Sinister Six (NES/SMS/GG)
Hey, another Spidey game I had as a kid and never beaten. Which version did I have? the Game Gear. Why does it suck Super Monkey Balls (not bashing the Monkey Ball games on purpose)? Poor control, crappy level design, cheap ass enemies, and just too damn difficult. Burn in hell!
The Uncanny X-Men (NES)
It’ll take all my mutant powers to defeat Magneto? How about I use my powers to burn this shitty game to pieces, and not waste my time? How about that, LJN?
Wolverine (NES)
Don’t even bother downloading the ROM. Just stay away. You can’t even use Wolverine’s claws for too long before you die. What kind of hamster shit is that? At least X-Men 2: The Clone Wars got it right where there’s no penalty for using what Wolverine’s famous for.
The Karate Kid (NES)
Need I say more other than same old shit?
This concludes my post on LJN. Rest in Piss!
