LordoftheReDead's favourite VG songs. :D

September 9, 2009 at 2:32 PM (LordoftheReDead's Music, LordoftheReDead's Posts, ReDead's Opinion)

I like a lot of video games, and consequently, a lot of video game music. Whoever says video games aren’t a form of art obviously hasn’t played any of these. :D

I’ll organize them by game, in whatever order I feel like. :D

Oh and please keep in mind that this is very much a work in progress, as I haven’t played near as many games as I’d like and I’m sure there are a very good few tunes that I haven’t heard yet. ;)

Best Comeback Albums

July 25, 2009 at 1:06 PM (LordoftheReDead's Music, LordoftheReDead's Posts)

Music? On a video game blog?

Damn right.

Anyway, this isn’t a top ten list,  it’s just a handful of albums that brought the band or it’s members back. This list is alphabetical by band, so don’t go complaining about the order.

Anyway, let’s kick it off!

AC/DC – Back in Black

Now, I’m not a big fan of AC/DC, but even I have to admit that with the tragic loss of their original singer Bon Scott, returning to music was pretty gutsy. And they did a pretty good job too, with some great riffs thrown in for good measure.

Black Sabbath – Heaven and Hell

After their previous two albums, which sucked, Black Sabbath needed a change. And what a change, replacing singer Ozzy Osbourne with Rainbow‘s former singer, Ronnie James Dio provided a much needed breath of fresh air. Bringing back killer riffs combined with Dio’s powerful vocals makes this album truly a masterpiece.

Black Sabbath/ Heaven and Hell – The Devil You know

The Ronnie James Dio era Sabbath released this album fairly recently under a new moniker Heaven and Hell, but underneath is Sabbath at their very best.

Ok, so it’s not really a comeback album for Sabbath, but it is a comeback for the members, so there.

Candlemass – King of the Grey Islands

Kotgi

The return of Messiah Marcolin on their previous album may have been a blessing for his fans, but his departure on this album is as much a blessing. Robert Lowe from Solitude Aeturnus joined the ranks and recorded a stellar album.

Iron Maiden – Brave New World

The departure of Adrian Smith in 1990 led to a couple of mediocre albums before Bruce Dickinson left and was replaced my Blaze Bailey, who recorded a pair of mediocre albums with the band. It was when Dickinson and Smith with Brave New World that really made a comeback. The album is chock full of what made Iron Maiden so good. Heavy, galloping basslines, intertwining harmonies, and Dickinson’s operatic vocals provide an excellent album.

John Lennon – John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band

JLPOBCover

After the beatles broke up, John Lennon started his solo career. His debut album, John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band, was much more “cutting” than the Beatles albums that preceded it, dealing with social issues, and not sugercoating at all.

Ozzy Osbourne – Down To Earth

After Ozzy’s previous couple of ballad-laden albums, this album returns to his heavy metal roots. With heavy, driving songs and a new bassist to round things out.

And that’s it, a selection of albums that brought the artists back from the dead, or at least back from the mediocre.
